Childhood Scraps in the Pacifist Caravan
Raised as a pacifist, his curse from the gods of war caused him no end of disappointment from the communal travellers he was born into. Constantly compelled to fight by the voices clamouring in his head, he fought compulsively in his youth. It was clear his violent nature could not be tamed, and so a young Miles Greyson was dispensed to a mercenary’s guild, Esthar's Hunters; a most peculiar trade between those who avoid conflict and those who make it their profession.
Esthar's Hunters
Quickly taking to the life of combat, Greyson rejects his name and takes the title of Greysword. He meets his wife Faye Greysword here and they fight alongside each other.
A rival from childhood, Lewin Dynham, spurs distrust of magic users amongst the guild and causes the guild leader to send Greysword and his wife on a suicide mission against a threat known to be out of their pay grade. Lewin is sent to accompany to confirm the death of the dangerous Greysword.
The threat was far greater than ever conceived: a Glabrezu (demon of desire) lurked in the lair of the reported beast, due to the strong desire of Lewin and the rest of the guild for Greysword’s demise, and beguiled Greysword into a conspiracy against his life. Whilst it was rooted in some truth, it caused Greysword to turn on his wife and murder her. She admits in her dying breath that she bore his child. Lewin looks on as the devil spares Greysword’s life, knowing it will be one of misery. It is unknown what happened to Lewin, and whether or not he escaped the demon’s lair.
Greysword rejects his first name Miles, the one his wife called him, and enters into a life fuelled by revenge only.
