Rovak, known in the mining community as Rovak the Buried, is an orcish barbarian who is noted for being the only survivor of a severe cave collapse in one of the mines of Baelstrad.
History
After his tribe was routed in a failed raid, Rovak wound up working for the Mining Consortium. A few years into working as a "subterranean asset recovery specialist", Rovak was sent to work in an extremely poorly-maintained mineshaft in winter. As the consortium well knew, the freezing of the rock had weakened the mine's structure, though Rovak and his team were deployed nontheless. Halfway into the workday, the mine collapsed.
Trapped in the mine, nearly drowning in ice-cold water, Rovak was forced to survive however he could whilst awaiting rescue. As the few other miners who were not killed outright perished, Rovak had not choice but to sate his hunger with their flesh. These corrupting acts, along with the slowly rising freezing water, served to rend Rovak's mind into shards, slowly, and cruelly. What came out of the mine was not near the same as the orc that went in.
Gladiator Career
Rovak returned to the city of Badeguard and took up a career as a gladiator in the fight pits. This eventually culminated in him reaching the final of the great competition.
Personality
What remains of Rovak's original personality before he became the Buried is subdued, hidden behind a thousand-yard stare and an icy cold demeanor. Behind the eyes are Rovak's visions - a rising water level, and in that illusory water, the faces of those he was forced to eat.
