Greycopse is a tiny farming hamlet in the River Kingdoms. The land around it is not particularly fertile, and the villagers that live there are hard-bitten and prepared for a scrap. The name comes from the birch forest that borders the hamlet to the north.

Geography

Greycopse lies on a floodplain, a fact which explains the steep 5-foot drop to the river, as the villagers have had to mitigate the risk of their homes being flooded. The weather is largely temperate, though subject to significant seasonal variation due to the lack of a nearby large body of water.

Layout

The westernmost building in Greycopse is the residence of Hunith, the village's herbalist. To the immediate south of that is the home of Rodrick, the headsman, and his wife Rosemary. Their house has an attached pigpen to the east, and betwixt those two buildings lies the entrance to the village's communal cold storage cellar. The final building on the west side of the river is that of the carpenter Vorlot and his family, which lies next to a potato field.

A single bridge, stone, crosses the river, and on the eastern bank lies the remainder of the village, the largest building of which is The Bridge Inn. As well as the inn, there are three residences: the house and shop of Holvar, a merchant and blacksmith; a half-barn building inhabited by Erik; and a bunkhouse operated by Irmen, which is the only place for travelers to rest in Greycopse.

Buildings

The only stone-walled buildings in Greycopse are the inn and the bunkhouse, which are built on ruins of a much older settlement. All other buildings are primarily of a wattle and daub construction.

The Bridge Inn

The village inn is a low stone building with a small cellar and smaller attached stables.

History

Greycopse was subject to persistent raids by kobolds in the early autumn of 4722AR, at the same time as the arrival of The Amnesiac.
