Eirnan was raised on a space station in the North-western corner of The Heartlands by his widower father, Jeren Versio, the owner of the station. Jeren always encouraged his son to tinker with technology and learn about the world. Plenty of odd trade came through the station, so Eirnan developed skills with some exotic programming architecture.

Eirnan travelled to the Federation Institute of Technology to study further, undergoing a combined certification in the history of technology, archaeology, and pre-federation civilisations. However, Eirnan’s studies were interrupted by his father’s death. The coroner wrote it up as a heart attack, but due to the lack of previous poor health and the fact that his father’s station was seized during the investigation, Eirnan suspected foul play. He knew that Jeren had some old military connections from the Federation Armada, connections which could have been turned against his father.

Eirnan’s interest in conventional career paths evaporated after that, and he pursued some training in digital forgery and system intrusion, then soon after started freelancing as a data recovery expert. To help in this, he had an eye-drive installed, nominally to speed up data collection and security analysis, but it also gave him something to tinker with.

Three years later, at the age of 23, Eirnan had made a name for himself in clandestine operation circles. He was working in the Edge Worlds on a retrieval operation when he caught wind of a Turing Vault nearby that had been left unprotected due to conflict in the sector. Having long held an interest in AI due to their unparalleled versatility in translation, Eirnan made the decision to try and steal the AI. After finishing a planet-side job for a corporate client (that didn’t end well), Eirnan stole a company shuttle, deactivated the transponder, and flew out to the Turing Vault. The dark side of the vault provided some shelter from the harshness of the system’s class O star whilst Eirnan made the spacewalk to the vault; Interfacing with the vault changed everything - Eirnan met Astraeus.

Half a year later, with a number more augmentations and repair jobs under his belt, whilst repairing a precursor ring, Eirnan retrieved a copy of an ancient Minotauran map of the sector. He abandoned the job, and, using the map, followed a trail of looted Minotauran installations all the way to a derelict hauler stop in interstellar space. The station was badly damaged, located between inner and outer federation space.
